Arab Street: Al Jazeera takes look at Arab-American life in New York
In this episode we visit New York, home to many Arab Americans.

Muslims serving in the US military, America's anti-terrorism laws, job prospects for the young - all are issues which excite strong opinions amongst Arab New Yorkers
In this edition of The Arab Street we pose the questions on which everyone has an opinion and we will explore how the Arab community have been affected by 9/11, how they get on with their Jewish neighbors and whether they feel Arab or American.
Has the so-called 'war on terror' changed their views on the 'American Dream'?

            Rapper addresses identity bias

Rapping in English and occasionally in Iraqi Arabic, Yassin’s lyrics address some of the social, political and cultural issues of our time, including the 9/11 attacks, the US-led invasion of Iraq, Islamophobia and the Israeli occupation of Palestine. He has performed in live shows across Canada, Europe, the United States and the Middle East.

                        The Ed & Moe Show

"We wanted to do something about our hometown Dearborn and show that Dearborn is not this sharia law city that some of the right wing conservatives are trying to trout," he said. "We wanted to do a story about these funny guys from Dearborn and show that Dearborn is just like any other city. It's a clash of cultures and it's another example that this is America. It's a melting pot, it's people coming together."

                            Animated Series

PBS Crossfire:Arab-American's

Picture
Centered in New York City, where September 11 directly affected Arab Americans from every walk of life (including scores who were killed in the World Trade Center), CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE puts viewers in the shoes of three individuals, each of whom - because of their job and/or place in the community - has had a particularly tricky road to navigate in recent months. The characters featured in the film are:
Ahmed Nasser, a New York City cop from Yemen who was stationed at ground zero. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks
Khader El-Yateem, a Christian minister who considers his homeland Palestine, leads a church in Brooklyn
Raghida Dergham, a high-level Lebanese American diplomatic correspondent and journalist working at the United Nations
Arab Americans have an immigrant experience that is at once typical and unique - like many immigrants, they are torn between their adopted country and their homeland, between modern American culture and ancient traditions and wrestled with their place in a changed America.
